The Brompton – Central Open Space project has successfully delivered a balanced and interconnected landscape outcome for the site.  The remarkable results, now observable in the landscape, testify to the efficacy of conscientious planning and intelligent design, successfully balancing competing interests in the open space.  The open space achieves four fundamental objectives.

  1. The creation of suitable habitat for the Galaxiella pusilla (Dwarf Galaxias) species listed as Vulnerable under the Australian Government Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
  2. A constructed wetland system has been created to further extend the habitat and biodiversity values of the flora and fauna unique to the area while also providing a critical water quality and storage function for a developing community.
  3. A patch of remnant trees has been protected and the understorey sensitively restored significantly enhancing the biodiversity of the site.
  4. Finally an open space reserve and play space were constructed with great care and sensitivity towards the aforementioned objectives.

The play space is an important feature of this open space that serves a key recreational feature for the community, adding an extra dimension to the site’s multifaceted design. Careful consideration was given to the theming of the play, play types and to the location and design of bespoke play elements.
